Time

Today is March 25th and it is time for my weigh in.  I did not lose any weight these past five days.  My current weight is holding at 333 pounds.  I am running out of time to make my goal of weighing in at or below 330 pounds by the end of March.

Immediately after my last weigh in I managed to get in some good exercise.  Since then, I have not done much of anything.  I am certainly going to have to improve on this if I have any chance of making this goal.

I also began blogging my daily calories consumed and burned through exercise.  I really felt like it held me in check a couple of times.  I did switch apps that I use to track this however and I am glad that I did.  My previous app had me consuming right around 2,750 calories per day in order to lose weight.  My new app has me consuming 2,250 calories per day.  I did some checking around at various websites such as the Mayo Clinic and it seems like this new app is more accurate.

I will continue to post my calories consumed as well as burned.  I find that it helps me to stay focused and honest.  Does anyone find that information interesting at all?

I did have a soda one day this past week. I am upset with myself about it. I don't think it is all that bad to drink a soda occasionally.  For me it is more about controlling the urge to drink it.  If I have one then I feel like I gave in.  Should I feel that way?

My next weigh in will take place on March 30th.  My goal may be very difficult to attain now.  I feel like I can still do it if I dedicate myself to exercise.  Please feel free to check in on me from time to time and drop me a line in the comments section below.  It is always great to hear from you!

3/21/2013:  Consumed 2,650 calories.  172 calories burned playing Your Shape Fitness Evolved 2012.

3/22/2013:  Consumed 2,580 calories.  453 calories burned playing mini golf.

3/23/2013:  Consumed 2,330 calories.  No exercise this day.

3/24/2013:  Consumed 2,820 calories.  No exercise this day.

3/25/2013:  Consumed 2,328 calories.  No exercise this day.

On Target

Welcome to the March 20th blog post!  I am pleased to report that I am on target for my goal of being at or below 330 pounds by the end of March.  I have lost one pound since March 15th.  I currently weigh 333 pounds.

I keep checking my weight between weigh ins and this may be a mistake.  The reason I say this is because it can be depressing.  At one point between the last weigh in and now I had actually gained a couple of pounds.  I believe that there were a couple of reasons for this.

The first reason is related to my diet.  I had pizza on Sunday and then left overs again on Monday.  I also had a couple of soda's between now and the previous weigh in.  I don't think I am ready to do the vegetarian diet that I had mentioned in a previous blog post.  To keep myself accountable though I have decided to start counting calories and I will be posting those daily numbers on the blog.  This will begin on March 21st.

The second reason is I have been exercising much more consistently.  It always seems to be the case that when I first start to exercise I gain weight right away.  I am not sure if this is due to the body holding onto more water or some other reason but it always seems to happen to me.  To improve consistency with exercising I will also be logging my calories burned in the daily calorie post mentioned above.

My next weigh in will take place on March 25th.  I need to lose another pound to stay on target with my goal of weighing in at or below 330 pounds by the end of March.  I am optimistic that with these daily calorie posts I will be able to reach my goal.  The exercise has me feeling great as well.  I am excited to see where this takes me.  Time will tell.  To help me stay accountable please feel free to check in often as I will do my best to update the calorie counts multiple times throughout the day.  Thanks for sharing this journey with me!

3/18/2013 Video Blog

Improvement

Today is March 15th and that means I am due for another weigh in.  I mentioned in my last blog post that I need to lose at least a pound at every weigh in between now and the end of month in order to reach my goal of being at or below 330 pounds.  I managed to improve on my previous weight by losing one pound.  My current weight is 334 pounds.

I don't know what my problem is but I am still drinking too much soda.  I think I had three since my last blog post five days ago.  I really need to do better.  I think it is just a convenience thing.  Whenever I do not have water or tea I find the temptation is stronger to get a soda.  The bottom line is I need to plan better so that I can minimize those temptations.  A good friend once told me that if you can identify the temptations that lead you to failure then you can learn to recognize the situations that lead to those temptations and avoid them altogether.  That is what I need do.

I really want to achieve this goal.  I have been contemplating making some drastic lifestyle changes in order to make this happen.  The main change I have been considering would be switching to a fruit and vegetable diet.  This would have to be more of a lacto-ovo vegetarianism as I would not be giving up milk.  Does anyone have an opinion on this or suggestions?  Let me know in the comments section below.

I got in a pretty good work out today on my Xbox 360 and Kinect with Your Shape Fitness Evolved 2012.  That game really kicks my butt.  Since it tracks calories burned it really makes you pay attention to what goes in your mouth and how long you would have to workout to make up for it.  A lot of work is required to burn such a small amount of calories.

My next weigh in will take place on March 20th.  I need to lose at least another pound to stay on track with my goal.  I would really like to upload another video blog post between now and the 20th.  I will try to work that into my schedule.  Thanks for checking in on me.  I look forward to next time.  Take care friends!

Fail

I am late in publishing a blog post for March 10th.  I have failed at quite a few things lately.  I have gained back a pound as a result of those failures.  My current weight is 335 pounds.

What are my failures?  I really did not want to talk about them and was considering skipping this blog post with the hope that I would be able to get back on track for next time.  Ultimately, that is not being as honest as I want to be on this blog.  I have had quite a bit of soda since my last blog post.  I have seen a couple of movies in theaters and I always get a soda there.  There have been several other times that I had soda as well.  I am guessing 5 times in all since my last blog post.  It is not that I think soda is evil.  Soda had just been such an addiction for me in the past that I need to be careful not to start drinking it all the time.

My commitment is starting to look like a joke.  I committed to be at or below 330 pounds by the end of this month and I am going in the wrong direction.  I need to turn this thing around and soon.

My next weigh in will be on March 15th.  I am sorry for not doing better.  I have half a month to lose five pounds.  There will be blog updates on the 15th, 20th, 25th, 30th, and another on April 1st.  I need to lose at least a pound at each of these next updates.  I will do this!

Maintain

Today is March 5th and that means it is time for another blog post update.  I seem to be maintaining my current weight as I neither gained nor lost any weight since my last blog post.  My current weight is 334 pounds.

I must say that I find this a little frustrating.  I got quite a bit of exercise these past five days playing some Xbox Kinect games.  Anything that gets me out of my chair and moving is a good thing in my opinion.

I did kind of mess up a bit with regard to my diet but that was early on in the five day cycle.  Basically we bought some ice cream and I went a little overboard.  The funny thing is I weighed in the next day and I had actually lost a pound.  After that, I did a very good job at not eating too much.  I was really hoping to be able to report a pound of weight loss for this update but that did not materialize.

Should I be a little nervous that I committed to be at or below 330 pounds by the end of this month?  Aside from the ice cream fiasco I felt like I did a solid job of getting in some exercise and following my diet.  If anything, I was probably not eating enough.  I will trust my routine for now but I may need to take things to another level if I do not see better results at the next weigh in.

My next weigh in will be on March 10th.  Should anything else come up between now and then I will be sure to update the blog.  Stay tuned to see if my commitments are worth anything.  Goodbye for now.

February 2013 Wrap Up

The month of February has come to a close and with it, the fifth chapter of my weight loss journey. I have lost three pounds since my last post on the 25th of February. My current weight is 334 pounds.

The past month was filled with distractions. I was in an automobile accident and that has taken up a lot of my time.  I have had to deal with the medical treatment of both myself and my daughter.  I have also been concerned about my car.  I get too attached to my vehicles.  The value of a vehicle does drop once it has been in a collision so I think those concerns are justified.

My lease was also ending and so I had a home inspection in February as well.  It was actually only days after the auto accident so the timing was pretty bad.  I did a lot of the work in pain but what else could I do?  I get very stressed about these inspections because the property management company will come in and take multiple pictures from different angles of all of the rooms.  I always feel like I will not get a renewal on the lease or the rent will be raised if the landlord is not satisfied.

Hopefully this does not sound like whining.  I realize that overall I have a very good life.  There is so much to be thankful for.  The auto accident could have been worse.  My lease was later renewed without raising rent.  I only mention those issues to say that I lost focus and it cost me.  This is my fault and I need to learn to stay more focused on my diet amidst the storms of life.

My challenge of not eating out during the month of February was not as successful as I would have liked.  I would not call it a complete failure though as I improved on not eating out as much as I was prior to this challenge.  I am optimistic that I can take the lessons learned from this experience and apply it to my life going forward.

  • Total weight still to lose: 135 pounds
My next regularly scheduled blog post will be on March 5th.  I want to get back to doing some exercise on my Xbox 360 with Your Shape Fitness Evolved 2012.  I am going to need to start working in some activity to keep the weight coming off.  Hopefully life will settle down a bit and I will get some time to make that happen.  I am going to make a commitment (not a challenge, we all know how I do on those) to be at or below 330 pounds by the end of March.  Failure is not an option!
